Educational Interpreting vs Community Interpreting
Katie has been an educational interpreter for many years, but even before joining the educational team she was involved in community interpreting. Watch as Katie explains some differences between education and community interpreting.
Hi, my name is Katie Milau and I am
an Educational Interpreter.
The biggest difference between educational interpreting and
community interpreting is that with educational interpreting you're part of a bigger team and you have a whole IEP team, and that includes
teachers, other support staff. And you're also focused more on long term goals for your student. There's more thought that goes into how to help that person progress.
Whereas, you know community interpreting it's more of, more situation based. You know what that circumstance in that moment looks like, whereas with educational interpreting you're perhaps more
focused on down the road. How is what we're doing now going to get that
student further down their path.
