Highlights from the 2024-2025 School Year

🎉 🎓 We can’t believe the 2024-2025 school year is already in the books! 🎉🎓 Listen in as Interpreter Supervisor, Lillah Harris, recaps how LAF SLS was able to expand our services this past year and what our clients had to say...

We say it every year, but we can't believe that another incredible school year is in the books. As we wrap up this school year, we at LAF SLS are feeling incredibly grateful for all of the connections that we've been able to make and all of the powerful moments that we got to share with the students and educators that we work with.

To recap, in the 2024–2025 school year, we were able to expand our services to include not only virtual sign language interpreting but also in-person interpreting by means of our Interpreter Placement Program. This program helped us to connect and collaborate with our recruiting team and our network of interpreters across the country to place multiple sign language interpreters in person where there was a need to support students.

In one standout example, a school that we’ve worked with in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, for the past two years, providing virtual services, requested an in-person sign language interpreter to support a younger first-grade student.

After receiving the request,  we were able to recruit and place an in-person sign language interpreter in the classroom within just one month.  This was a smooth transition for the school and a success for the student, who could receive not just support in the classroom but also be able to engage socially with classmates and get support in extracurricular activities, field trips, and other activities.

Here are just a few more examples of how our clients were so impressed with the interpreters that they worked with this past year.

A teacher in Lafourche Parish, in Louisiana, Mr. Thad Matherne said, “This was my first year having a deaf student in my classroom.  At first, I didn’t know how we were going to communicate, but with the sign language interpreters, it was an easy transition.  Bother interpreters were wonderful in helping.  Miss Marlene even sent me a chart on how to sign numbers, which worked out great.  The first year has been an absolute success, and I can’t wait to work with them again next year.”

“Another teacher, named Hir Amin in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, said, “I can’t say enough good things about LAF SLS.  As someone who worked alongside their interpreter, Sophia Miller, this year, I was consistently impressed by the professionalism and dedication of the entire team.  Sophia’s skills and positive attitude made a huge difference for our student, and it’s clear that LAF SLS is committed to providing top-notch interpreting services. Highly recommend.”

Another client in Bucks County has already requested support for the 2025-2026 school year.  They said, “The district and educational team are so pleased with the student’s progress and Sophia and Brian’s support as her interpreters that they have increased her interpreting services to full-time during the next school year.”

So, as this school year comes to a close, we are incredibly thankful to all of our clients who have put their trust in us this past year, and we are excitedly looking ahead to what next year holds.  If you are a school district that is in need of sign language interpreters, whether virtually or in person, or maybe a mixture of both, we are here to help you.  Please contact us as the information below, and we’d love to discuss how we can assist in placing interpreters in your school district and how easy it is to set up services.
