Professional Guidelines for Educational Interpreters

Hi everyone! My name is Lillah Harris. I'm the owner of LAF Sign Language Solutions. I'm outside enjoying some of the beautiful fall weather and I wanted to share a very informative free resource. It's the EIPA Guidelines of Professional Conduct for Educational Interpreters.

The guidelines describe the difference between the role of an educational interpreter in a school setting and the role that an interpreter plays in a community setting. And honestly, most of the questions that I get asked all the time are addressed in this nine page, very easy to read document. Some of the topics that are discussed are the interpreter's role on the educational team, how interpreters can work with students at various different language and cognitive levels, the minimum qualifications of an interpreter, and many other topics.

If you are part of an educational team that works with deaf and hard of hearing students that use an interpreter, I highly recommend that you become familiar with this document and keep it as a resource. It provides key information that could help you make sure that your student is getting the most out of their education.
