The Benefits of Virtual Interpreting
Special Education Director, Wanda Blakely discusses her initial concerns about virtual sign language interpreting services, the benefits, and why she would LAF SLS's services again as well as recommend it to others.
My name is Wanda Blakely, and I am the Director for Special Education Services in my school district. I am also the District Coordinator for ADA and 504.
I had a lot of concerns about providing, finding an interpreter to provide services virtually because I just felt like it was something that needed to be done face to face. That personal touch. And in the back of my mind, I just
wondered if it would be as beneficial for the student to have someone
to provide that service virtually opposed to having someone right there with them.
I found out that having a virtual Interpreter was the best decision I could have made. It taught that student some independence as it relates to being in class on time, logging in on time and communicating with his teachers. Not only the teachers that's physically in the classroom, but
building a relationship with his online interpreter. So, that was a great move.
And that is a decision that I think I would make again and again, and again.
It was the service with a personal touch that did it for me. And that is what made me choose LAF to provide services for the student in my district and that is why I would choose LAF again in the future and refer them to whomever may be in need of interpreting services.
